Condolences

After I published the last post I read in The Star's obituary page that my friend, Sunny is dead. Traffic accident. Another family has lost a husband and father. Sunny was 49 years old.

Rest In Peace, friend.

Hi Patrick,

I'm sorry to heat about that. My condolences to you.

Been reading your blog and looking out at the skies and at people out there and wondering how, basically good people can just let things slip by them, let the gifts we have in our lives just get taken away. I suppose being tired by our self-inflicted pressures makes us too weak willed when it comes to things we really feel we don't have control over. Thing is, we do. We can control our own habits. We can, as one voice, have a say when it comes to our governing ourselves and our nation. But it's too hard to fight for it, and that's the saddest thing. People find it easier to give in than to give it out.

Take care,
C

Swallow, the man was loved and now sadly missed by his family. That's all that matters.

Thanks mamasan. You are right. We do have the power in our hands. But over the years the politicians have been so successful in "educating" that we have lost the use of that power. Although after having said that there are signs that people are beginning to recognise that "People Power" is real and effective. See how the taxi drivers of Penang got together and told the government to go F**K themselves and then went about their usual merry way of doing business without meters? Notice how the police have in not so many words told everyone to go screw themselves and to leave them to do things the way they have always done? Commissions? Public or Royal can go take a flying F**K was what they were actually saying. Okay more seriously, recently the people of Petaling Jaya proved that they have real power in their hands. Too little too late? Maybe not. (Fingers crossed)

Sorry to hear on the loss of a friend. We are nothing but pawns to these self-proclaimed elite politikus, 1st to tax our money and last to heed our cries. We exists to enrich these few and their cronies who shamelessly play the emotions of the people at will whenever their wrongdoings are highlighted. Malaysia is truly unique as our politikus would swop so low.

I'm sorry to hear that. Living in a very road-safe city in Britain, I think back to the time in Malaysia when I couldn't even cross some roads, and am thankful for the driving mentality instilled here. People slow down and are not maniacal on the streets. Cars are so cheap that there are virtually no motorocycles, except for superbikes.

As a medical student, however, I still see horrific road accidents. Some of them occur apparently for no reason at all, and it is these cases that sting the most when we lose the patient. So many of these deaths are avoidable, and I agree that much can be done to tame drivers in Malaysia. Lord knows lives will be saved and families kept together. I just don't agree that all that can be done is being done, no matter how much politicians or officials grandstand and crack down.

It is in times like these that I reassure myself there is a higher power driving us, and that these deaths happen for a reason. I have to believe that. I have no choice. It would be too much for my sanity otherwise.

My condolences to the family and to you, Patrick.

Hello Mr Patrick Teoh, I have been reading ur blog for some time already and this is my first time leaving a comment.

My dad was an avid listener of ur radio show, and stories of your show & him meeting you once personally in a shopping complex were told again and again by him over the years. :)

I am now studying Mass Comm, so even though I never had the chance to listen to your shows on-air, your name & your stories are not too unfamiliar!

Thanks for all the posts. They broaden my views on certain issues. Cheers. :)

Everytime I go out I'm always mindful of this fact: in the US, especially in TV and movies, people make fun of Asian drivers. To their seemingly narrow mind, Asian drivers are the scourge of the road. Well, we over here have the firsthand knowledge that that stereotype is more than justified, as the evidence presents itself time and again. And what about mirror-tinted windows? Wasn't that illegal at one time? Stuff like that simply has "stupid driver inside" written all over it. And we outlaw drivers wearing headphones, only to allow head-hammering noises coming out of all 9 speakers that are crammed into a car?
